Zack Greinke of the Kansas City Royals has what major leagers call “F you stuff,” according to nationally syndicated radio host Jim Rome.
I freely admit that I’m not a huge baseball fan. In fact, I basically only watch the world series. There’s a baseball heritage in my family – my grandfather was a pitcher before WWII, but the pace of the game is just not that interesting to me.
That said, I enjoy Zack Greinke. When he starts, the excitement in the city is palpable.
So what exactly does F you stuff mean? For Zack, it means after a quarter of a season, he has an ERA of .84 and a WHIP of .88. He has pitched more complete games than anyone in baseball this year. In his last 20 starts (since last August), his ERA is 1.5 and his WHIP is 1.2.
He’s being compared on national sports shows to Satchel Paige, and that doesn’t seem like a stretch. In fact, Greinke has BETTER numbers than Paige.
His numbers compare favorably to Nolan Ryan and Randy Johnson.
Unfortunately for Zack, he’s playing on a team where he is the superstar and the rest of the team is mediocre. We can only be confident when he starts. Still, it’ll be fun while it lasts…
…until the Yankees offer him 3 billion dollars a year.
