The Blame Game

Today the blame game begins.

The political games begin.

Bush and the Republicans are to blame for the nut at Virginia Tech. The NRA is to blame for the nut at Virginia Tech.

It was only a matter of hours before the media began a blitz of anti-gun propaganda.

Let us not forget, as my pal Rush Limbaugh reminded us today, that the most heinous acts ever committed on Americans were done using box cutters and fertilizer. 9/11 and Oklahoma City.

Let’s also remember that Columbine and yesterday’s attack both happened in “Gun Free Zones,” a retarded idea cooked up by far left anti-gun zealots and agreed to in compromise by the 2nd Amendment rights crowd. There are no gun-free zones for bad guys or psychotic nuts. If you ban handguns and force people to turn them in, only the most upstanding citizens will comply. The alternative is to go door-to-door and search people’s homes. Most states don’t require registration of guns, and almost no states keep lists of gun owners. In fact, over and over it’s been ruled unconstitutional. Do you want the government searching your house, for ANY reason?

If owning a gun is criminal, then only the criminals will own guns. I for one don’t want to wait for the police to arrive to scrape my remains off the floor if someone breaks into my house. I would defend myself, and I’d be absolutely right to do so.

The idea of the left that gun owners are nuts, and the fact that any time a kook goes on a rampage that I as a gun owner get lumped in with him… Wow, that’s actually REALLY offensive. Are we going to ban knives, too? Knives can kill just as effectively as a gun. Are we going to ban martial arts classes? An expert at martial arts can kill with his bare hands. Are we going to ban automobiles? People are killed by cars every single day. I could kill a person with a hammer if I had the desire to do so. Blaming the tool is ridiculous. Lumping gun owners in with psychotic nuts… well, that’s just plain wrong. I know dozens of gun owners… gun lovers even… and not one of them has ever fired AT a person, let alone killed anyone.

Another important element of gun control is the fact that by banning guns, you create an even bigger black market for guns. It wouldn’t be long before gang violence escalated in the same way that the black market for drugs has happened. Remember how much violence happened as a result of prohibition… and that was just alcohol. If people want something that’s not legal, there will always be a black market to provide it… to anyone willing to break the law.

I think Penn & Teller got it absolutely right on their “BS” show about gun control. “The right of the people to keep and bear arms” is not optional in a free society. Why, you ask? It’s exactly this: This country was founded on rebellion against an oppressive government. The framers of the constitution wanted to be absolutely clear that people had a DUTY to overthrow the government should it stop doing the will of the people.

Only a tyrannical and oppressive government, afraid of its own people, confiscates guns. Hitler did it. We all know how that turned out.

If the liberal contingent gets their way, government will have absolute power, control over everything, and we the people will have no recourse, no way to defend ourselves, and no way to insure that America is always a country run by the people. Our country is still a baby… 250 years is nothing compared with most countries in the world. The jury’s still out on whether our country can keep on going without imploding.

So we throw out the 2nd Amendment. That’s no big deal, right? I mean, who really needs a gun, anyway? Ok, if you want to surrender your rights, that’s your decision. But eventually the leftists will get to a right you actually care about… the FIRST amendment perhaps. They’re already trying to creep up on the first amendment…

Are you ready to start giving up rights and letting the government control more aspects of your life? Is that what this country was meant to be?

If you understand how this country was founded, and you embrace the idea of liberty, how could you possibly see it any other way?

Charlton Heston, George W. Bush, guns and the Republicans are NOT to blame for what happened yesterday. Cho Seung-hui is to blame, 100%.

As I said yesterday, guns kill people in the same sense that pencils write books, and in the same sense that having female anatomy makes you a prostitute.

Charlton, I wish you well, my friend. I hope your Alzheimers has progressed to the point that you didn’t understand that idiot congressman who was blaming you for what happened.

“…from my cold, dead hands.”

I saw the most ridiculous thing on the news yesterday. Some idiot was quoted as saying “if there was gun control, he never would have had a gun to kill people.” RIGHT… because no one would ever buy something illegally. I’m not a big fan of guns personally, but I think to say that is insulting to anyone with an ounce of common sense.

“and in the same sense that having female anatomy makes you a prostitute”

EXCELLENT point! that is SO discriminatory against the thousands of male prostitutes around the world!!

Let’s also not forget that over thirty people died, and that the blame game, politics, and the extremist arguments for, or against…whatever…they aren’t going to bring those young lives back.

Who cares who is or who isn’t to blame?

People need to think about this tragedy and consider its implications in their own way.

Anyway, my prayers go out to the families and friends of those lost. I know yours do too.

“The framers of the constitution wanted to be absolutely clear that people had a DUTY to overthrow the government should it stop doing the will of the people.”

Is there room on that soapbox for me??

We could discuss the Patriot Act and how Bush wanted to extend its lovely civil-liberty-violating provisions…

I don’t think liberals want the government to have control of everyone. Really, what I think is that the liberal and conservative factions each want the government to control DIFFERENT aspects of people’s lives.

That said, I think that more gun control isn’t the answer…you’re right that more gun laws aren’t going to prevent tragedies like this from happening.

Whoops, I was in such a hurry earlier that I typo’d myself …. it’s “noughts” not “naughts” … nought means “zero” in English.

    I suppose I should add that I own a Glock-23, .40 cal. You may safely assume I am anti-gun-control.

DK – Glock .40 cals are AWESOME, eh!? I have the baby Glock .40 – the model 27.
