Technology Hell

At first, I thought I was only in Technology Pergatory, but then I quickly realized that not only was I not Catholic, but that it was far worse than just being in limbo…

It all started when a coworker called and asked for help with a file that wouldn’t print. I took a look, and the file was not allowing you to select an output device. It seemed strange, but I’m an idiot, so I had her send the file to my computer.

16 hours later, my system is finally completely restored.

As luck would have it, the file had some kind of strange worm that effed up the .dll files in the Windows system. The only way to fix it was to wipe the drive and start over. It was pretty time consuming, and then the other computers around the office started to exhibit the same strange behavior… It started out so innocently “Print SpoolSub Has Encountered A Problem and was Shut Down. Click Here to notify Microsuck.”

After 10 minutes or so, the only thing you could do was… well, nothing. You couldn’t click a file, open a program, go to the Internet, read email…

What a mess.

The lesson learned… don’t open attachments that are known to be effed up files.

I hope you’re all enjoying the temporary layout here at IP. I really like it, but as soon as I figure out how, I’m going to create my own template from scratch… probably using some of the Diaryland template I’ve been on for the past 4 months. I won’t make an exact copy, because I like how readable this is, and how quickly it loads.

Anyhoo, I’m working on setting up a notification list of some sort. Look for the signup on the old site. http://incrediIncredipete.diaryland.com/

Later Taters.

I’m glad you made the move. It was all too frequent an occurrence that the other site was down. You’re worth following.

I guess the lesson learned is, if it doesn’t work on somebody else’s computer, it probably won’t work on ours, either. Do computers save time or waste time? Absolutely!
