So Now Homeland Security is Watching Me?

The Department of Homeland Security, rather than worrying about the people who have actually blown stuff up in America, has issued their new report that indicates people who are pro-life or anti-illegal immigration (or gun owners, etc.) may be right-wing extremists who will become terrorists.

This is totally offensive to me on every level, in fact, I can’t even tell you how unbelievably wrong it is, both from a personal perspective and from the perspective of an American citizen. Aren’t we allowed to have personal beliefs anymore? Aren’t we allowed to express our personal beliefs anymore.

I really don’t have the desire to even write anymore about this.

    Utterly ridiculous!

Would you be so bent out of shape about this if it said it considered pro-choice, pro-gun control groups, etc. to be potential terrorist threats? I’m not even trying to be snarky here, I’m curious. Because I sort of suspect if it was a republican administration saying that, you might not be so up in arms (HA) about it. (Honestly, I don’t care either way. Since the Patriot Act, I just assume they think they have the right to think we’re ALL terrorists. Like wearing a f**king skirt to the airport.)

I would definitely be up in arms about it. Free speech is by far the most important element of a free society. That’s why even though the ACLU often supports people that I consider despicable, I still admire the fact that they ALWAYS defend free speech, even when it doesn’t agree with their politics.

So to answer your question, yes, I think it’s outrageous to label people potential terrorists who have never had any history of being terrorists. Can we please focus on the Islamic extremists who actually ARE terrorists? Please?!

Well, I’m glad to see you say that.

I’m not always a huge fan of the ACLU, either. But I’m glad it’s there. (But I wish they would stop sending so much frickin junk mail to my house.)
