Many of you were reminded of the repressed homosexual family, the Phelps, of Topeka Kansas when a judge ruled that they were owed $16,000 by a family who had sued them for protesting their dead son’s funeral.
However, they were already on my mind because as I drove to work, I passed one of their “protests” at the local radio station. Now granted, there were 6 Phelps morons and there were over 500 anti-Phelps protesters, but it still ticks me off. They were protesting the radio station because one of the DJs is gay.
It’s amazing to me that there are people in the country that hadn’t heard of them before this recent court ruling. But I often forget that I’ve been subjected to their hilariously funny graphics and hate rhetoric since 1994, when I saw them for the first time – picketing at the Treasure of the Czars exhibit. It made me wonder how they knew that the Russian Czars were gay…
At that particular protest, I personally engaged the man himself, Phred Felps, in a debate. Foolish on my part, because he had a twisted excuse for every hateful opinion.
Since then, we’ve all learned that what Phred and his idiot daughter Shirley really want is publicity, followed by the hope that someone will assault them or infringe on their “first amendment rights” so they can file a lawsuit against them. Phred himself is a disbarred lawyer after he perjured himself in a Federal court. That should be an indication as to his credibility, both as a person and as a “Christian.”
And once we learned that all Phred wanted was attention, we basically started ignoring him around here. The rest of the country can’t understand why we here in Kansas and we Christians haven’t shut him down. The answer is, we’ve certainly tried, but the fact is his speech is protected by the first amendment, like it or not. Their protests are peaceful even if they are despicable.
Although I don’t condone vigilantism, I certainly expect that at some point, someone will blow these idiots up. It’s only a matter of time. And unlike when Dr. King was killed, they won’t be martyrs. The entire country will rejoice.
If you really want to stand out against the Phelps’, the best thing you can do is don’t give them any attention.
