Operation Chaos

The Obama camp is saying Limbaugh’s “Operation Chaos” gave Hillary the victory yesterday. The Hillary camp is saying that Limbaugh had nothing to do with it. Limbaugh of course takes credit for her win.

However, all of that is secondary to what I’m interested in talking about today.

There is a growing contingent on the left that wants to “sue” or “hang Limbaugh for treason” or “shut down his show” because of Operation Chaos.

I have several problems with that, of which the reasonable, thinking Americans will all agree with:

1. The government should never EVER EVER, did I mention NEVER be allowed to have ANY say whatsoever in who can vote for whom, regardless of their reasons. That would violate the most fundamental rights we have as Americans.

2. In America, free speech, especially as it relates to politics and religion are protected specifically by the first amendment. I’m POSITIVE that none of us are interested in forcing someone to shut up for their political views, no matter how ridiculous or “un-American” they may be. At least, not those of us concerned with our own personal freedoms.

3. If you’re going to have an open primary, which of course both parties have in some states, you can’t very well complain when people cross over and vote in your primary. John McCain was virtually given a pass by all of the moderate democrats who crossed over to vote for him. That’s a matter of polling data that has been confirmed. Yet, although most of us in the Republican camp are pretty unhappy to have McCain as our guy, we aren’t going around saying we should go after those moderate democrats for election fraud. It’s our own stupid fault for allowing Democrats to vote in our primary!

I think it’s hilarious that anyone on the Democrat side is even slightly perturbed about it. They have their guy already wrapped up as the Republican candidate. So we can either have a hyper-liberal black guy, a hyper-liberal woman, or a moderately liberal old guy. What the heck difference does it make? We’re screwed any way you slice it.

    First off. Awesome. Nicely put.

I could not agree more, I think it is insanity for anyone to even suggest that a RADIO program be shut down for influencing an election. What people don’t realize is when John Kerry was running for president Howard Stern unleashed a huge daily campaign for the guy. And at the time Stern was on at least as many markets as Limbaugh if not more. The difference was that Stern’s campaign failed miserably because Americans (collectively) are smarter than any radio guy. Not because they didn’t elect Kerry, but because people didn’t vote for Kerry JUST because some Radio guy said, “Hey go do this.”

People only do that when the Radio guy is giving away free concert tickets.
