North Korea Still Nuts

Today it’s being reported that North Korea still fully intends to weaponize plutonium and make nuclear bombs. They haven’t really deviated from this plan although they’ve occasionally pretended to stop.

I have two thoughts on this. First, is it really any of our business whether or not they have nukes? If they manage to create nukes, they’re probably going to use them on their neighbors, not on us.

They’re much more likely to nuke… say, Japan. That would be bad as far as us being able to obtain hybrid cars and plasma TV’s, but it really doesn’t impact us personally.

If they decide to start nuking other rogue nations, that would actually help us… say Pakistan, Syria, Iran…

Our interests in South Korea are minimal at best, so they could even nuke them. We’d have to live without Kia, but I’m willing to make that sacrifice in the name of non-interference.

I don’t honestly believe North Korea intends to nuke anyone. They are a tiny blip of a worthless country, and it’s really just an international small man syndrome pissing contest (pardon my french). They feel inferior (which they clearly are) so they want to have nukes to feel like they’re an international player.

Kinda like the 13 year old gang banger who buys an Uzi. It’s all about feeling tough. Of course, if the 13 year old uses his Uzi in the wrong place, he’s going to be squashed by everyone – the police and the other bad guys. Nature always finds balance, and that usually does so by eliminating the outliers. North Korea is just a geographical outlier waiting to be erased.

Second, if they do attack the US, won’t we simply eliminate them from the face of the Earth? They know we’d melt their entire country into a sheet of glass.

Didn’t we used to think that about Germany during WWII?

    Incredipete,

There’s always the possibility NK will sell their nukes to another ‘hostile’ nation, one that would likely attack us with them. Will NK do that? Only time will tell.

Currently, to the best of my knowledge, one of the greatest threats, if not THE greatest threat, the Department of Homeland Security is trying to prepare for is the upper atmospheric detonation of an atomic bomb. This would almost certainly cripple most of our nation, maybe even all of it, however, our defensive systems are the most advanced in the world and would surely stop such an act from ever happening.

I take comfort in knowing there’s a slim chance anything like that would ever come to fruition for any ‘hostile’ nation and the United States. NK knows it doesn’t really have a good hand, or an ace up the sleeve. Furthermore, NK knows we are the world’s leading military superpower and we have many friends, even still. I personally believe NK wants attention and respect, not war and desolation. NK doesn’t have what it takes to make it on their own so this is what their leadership does: make threats and saber-rattle. Nothing new here.

NK isn’t a superpower of anything. It’s really just a superpest.
