No Hall of Fame for Belichick

Incredipete Rose didn’t get into the Baseball Hall of Fame because he gambled on baseball. Unethical? Yes. Did he throw games? No. Was he the best hitter in baseball’s history? Probably.

Those of us Americans who don’t happen to live in Boston know that the Patriots overall talent level is mediocre. Adequate. Average. They do not have a lot of spectacular talent on their team. So it was always marvelous that they managed to kick everyone’s hiney.

Personally, I racked it up to coaching. It HAD to be the coaching, because the team wasn’t that great. Any team in the AFC West should have been able to smoke the Patriots. I thought Belichick must be the biggest genius in football. There was no other explanation.

Oh yeah… except for being a low down cheating kerr. No wonder the Patriots won with an average team. They were fricking cheating. Even blatantly! So blatant that in the Green Bay game where GB noticed they were cheating and told the NFL, the NFL told the Patriots to stop and then a few minutes later they started again.

Belichick has brought an unprecedented level of douchebagery (thanks Dusty for that term) to the NFL. Not only is his first game of this season in question… every game he’s coached is in question, not the least of which are the Superbowls he won.

Now we find out that Brady was only as good as his cheating coach.

Belichick and the Patriots will now go down in the record books with a big asterisk next to their names… much like Barry Bonds. Yeah, you won a handfull of Superbowls, but you cheated to do it.

I didn’t think it was possible for me to ever despise a team as much as I despise the Colts, but the Patriots have officially accomplished it. At least the Colts win routinely because they have a genius quarterback. There’s no denying that. I don’t think Dungy had much to do with their offensive success… that was mostly Manning. And that’s coming from someone who really doesn’t have fondness for Peyton Manning. At least they won on Manning’s talent and not by cheating.

There’s no way Belichick should ever make it into the Hall of Fame. I don’t care if he does have a better record than Lombardi. Lombardi wasn’t a cheater.

I think the U.S. sports should follow the rules of Formula One racing: the McLaren team got caught stealing Ferrari’s engineering schematics, and lost all their points and got fined ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS.

Well I for one think that if you aren’t cheating, you aren’t trying hard enough.

But that should ALWAYS be at the player level, never the coach. Just like Teachers should never cheat, neither should coaches.
