Dear Abby

Abby. Yes, Abby. The name changed roughly 200 times today, but my final answer is Abby.

Yesterday I bought a new car. However, that’s already old news, because today I adopted a puppy. She is a Labrador/Border Collie mix, four months old. She is a very well behaved, docile, shy little girl, and I have yet to hear her bark. She cries a little when I leave the room, but quits after a couple of minutes. I hate to leave her, but I want her to get used to NOT sleeping in my bedroom. She will be an indoor dog, but not a “sleep in Incredipete’s bed” dog…

I am holding out for Ms. Right to share the bed with, and I’m fairly certain that the pool of possible “Ms. Rights” does not include anyone in the canine category.

However, I have proceeded to spoil this girl rotten already. I stuffed her with so many treats she almost barfed. Fortunately she held it in. Tonight we begin “crate training” which for the less educated is where you put the puppy into a small confined space to keep them from going potty. They don’t want to go where they have to live, so they will hold it as long as they can. That’s the theory. I’ve never tried it, so we’ll see. I bought Resolve spray for the almost certain “accidents.”

Anyway, a picture is worth a thousand words, so here’s four thousand words:

Yeah, she’s pretty cute. And look how happy she was to curl up next to me and be quiet…

I am fortunate enough to have several friends that are dogaholics, and one of them, the famous Jennyanydots, agreed to come help me get her set up. She brought a small cage and shampoo to give Abby a bath, and then showed me some of the basics of obedience training. Here is Abby eating me out of house and home:

As you can see from the next picture, Abby and Jennyanydots hit it off quite nicely…

Well, I won’t go on and on about it. I’m sure there will be many more articles and pictures in the future. Also, I will post a picture of the new car (Wendy, it’s Dark Maroon) as soon as I get my digital camera back from my friend that borrowed it.

I guess it’s time to go take Abby out for her final potty break of the night. Talk to you later, tators.

AUTHOR: HRT you know… that sepia colored photo with the hand water crank is screaming for a comment, but since I’m practicing the kinder gentler HRT I’ll refrain.

AUTHOR: Wendy Here are a few pictures of my Sugar dog. She is a two-year-old miniature Jack Russell Terrier. She was only six weeks old in the first picture.

AUTHOR: maf! a new baby! how exciting – i’m a dog junkie myself. and let me pass on one word of advice – 2 words actually “spot shot” the best carpet cleaner you will EVER EVER use…I have a lab mix dog too – and it’s an excellent investment. Good luck on the crate training – it’s a BEAUTIFUL thing!

AUTHOR: Incredipete HRT, it would have been a bit gay, except that Abby is a lady.

AUTHOR: Jackie Congrats Incredipete, on the car and the dog. I hope she doesn’t pee and poop and shed all over your house. Let me know how it goes as I have thought about getting a dog but am loathe to bring it into the house we just built. However she is quite cute, and it was sweet that you signed Incredipete&Abby.

AUTHOR: HRT Although that one picture of you and the dog looks really gay. Make sure all of the “women” who write you for dates are actually women and not a 6’5″ hairy guy recently out of prison. Don’t forget “Leslie” doesn’t always have to be a girl.

AUTHOR: Incredipete Thanks everybody. LEAH, I actually called her Kira for the first several hours. Weird. But she just acted more like an “Abby” so she got the name…

AUTHOR: Teets Awww. Cute puppy. Abby is also my dog’s name. She’s a blond cocker spaniel. Jennyanydots is cute too. She looks like good girlfriend-for-Incredipete material. 🙂

AUTHOR: Wendy Abby is very cute indeed. I want her. She would love my Sugar dog. Sugar too was crate trained and it is true, after a while they find great comfort in it. She is a lucky dog to have had you come along and give her the IncrediLove.

AUTHOR: Leah AW!!!! PUPPY! Seriously, crate training works great. Kira (who is just over 4 months now) is happy to go into her crate at bedtime. She curls right up and goes to sleep and doesn’t make a peep until around 8am when everyone in the house is up. She’s not as happy about the crate when we put her in it during the day if we go out to run errands, but she has NEVER had an accident in her crate. My only suggestion, give her something to chew on while she’s in there. It seems to calm Kira.

AUTHOR: your adorable little sister so, you finally gave me a niece. She looks just like you. She’s adorable, though. You’d better bring her over to visit, although Sven would probably scare the holy bejeebers out of her. Anyhoo, I have a feeling that she will be sleeping in your bed…she has that look about her. Who knew you’d ever get a puppy….
