Could It Be?

MORE entropy?

Why not!?

So, you all read my woes from last week. It was ugly. Well, the lovely Jenna offered to pay for me to replace my POS TREO for something that actually works. So Saturday morning, I hopped into my newly refurbished Intrepid and headed to the Verizon store, which is about 3 miles away.

I made it about 1.5 miles and the engine light came on. Another half mile, the car started sputtering and violently lurching. I coasted into the Dodge dealership that happened to be right there. I told the guy I’d just paid almost 2k the day before to have my car worked on, and that I was at my wits end and didn’t want to wait several more days.

The service manager took pity on me and scanned the computer personally. The cam sensor was toast. $170.00 to replace it. Funny, because the dealership from the day before had quoted that same thing at $350.00. Interesting. So I had no choice, and I had them replace it. Great. I have a car again.

So my intent this weekend was to get caught up on a bunch of web design projects that fell by the wayside after my backup drive fried last week. Mmmhmmm. So Sunday morning I sit down to start working on them, and lo and behold, the web server is down.

Lovely. It doesn’t affect business customers (because their sites are mirrored in another data center), but it does affect personal account (bloggers) holders… guess what sites I needed to be working on! Personal sites, of course. So yesterday was spent angrily demanding that the data center replace the suspect equipment before I launched a Tomahawk Cruise Missile in the general direction of Maryland.

They got it fixed, but the day was gone. I completely understand that equipment burns out, things happen… I get it. However the timing could not have been worse.

Almost everything I own has now broken in the last 7 days. Now I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Strongly suggest that you do not masturbate for a few days.

Yea…what about your triple redundant servers and stuff?

Well, like I said, it didn’t affect any of the business customers. Mirroring a blog site is how shall we say… “tricky” because it gets updated all the time. Syncing databases across data centers is anything but easy.

But yes, for an extra fee, you can be mirrored. As for backing up, you are indeed triple backed up on your content, including a nightly full backup, so even if the server burns out totally, your site’ll be back up in a couple of hours.
