Arizona is in the hot seat of the immigration debate. Most of the country will never know what it’s like to be a border state… simply a geographic reality.
On the one side, we have people who claim it’s racist to try and stop people from sneaking across the border, under the idea that “we’re all immigrants from somewhere.” On the other side are the more rational people, who understand that there’s a difference between legal and illegal immigration. Immigration without documentation is a recipe for bad. Drug importation, criminals crossing to get away from Mexico, and millions entering to work without having to pay into the system the rest of us pay into.
Arizona can’t afford to take care of illegals anymore than California or Texas can. California has basically bankrupted themselves trying to do just that.
I am all for sensible immigration reform. Lord knows it would be nearly impossible to deport the 20+ million illegals currently here. And I also understand that we need the extra labor to do crappy jobs…. OR DO WE? Unemployment is 10%. I’ll bet some of those people would be happy to pick fruit to feed their families. Don’t you think?
Here are some statistics for you:
Cost of incarceration of criminal illegal immigrants since 2008: $24,000,000,000 – Yes, that’s billions.
Money wired to Mexico since 2001: $257,000,000,000
Cost of social services to illegals since 1996: $397,000,000,000
Number of illegals who are criminal fugitives from justice (known): 740,159
Number of skilled jobs occupied by illegal aliens: 11,576,000
Number of illegal alien children in our public schools: 5,029,000
Now, I realize it’s considered racist to profile Latinos. But the truth is, Latinos are the ones illegally immigrating en masse, and many (if not most) of the Latinos here LEGALLY support those who are here illegally. How do we solve this problem WITHOUT profiling?
Terrorists are usually middle easterners, criminals are usually males 16-35 years old (and if we’re being REALLY non-PC, most of those are black), and illegal aliens are usually Mexican. Those are simply facts, not racial comments.
So given the number of fugitives, drug dealers, etc. that are mixed in with the “good” illegals, what is YOUR suggestion for solving the problem. I’m especially interested in hearing from those of you opposed to the Arizona bill.
